A happy mom makes a happy home. Here’s how to keep yourself happy post delivery

You waited nine months for this moment. And when you finally saw your child, nothing compared to that moment. Then began a time of great happiness and challenges in equal measure. Often adjusting to the new situation and the fact that a life is now entirely dependent on you can take a psychological toll.

Postpartum depression is a reality that many women choose to ignore. You don’t have to. Take the right steps to ensure positivity in your life, and all will be well. Here are a few tips that can help you:

1. Communicate with friends:

After pregnancy, your mind will be filled with thoughts that are both positive and negative. This jumble can often result in anxiety and stress. Do not hesitate to communicate exactly what you are feeling with your friends and family. Remember, they are not there to judge you, only to hear you out. This simple act can ensure better mental health for you and help keep depression at bay.

2. Pamper yourself:

You have been through a lot with the pregnancy. You have earned the right to pamper yourself and no one can tell you otherwise. Indulge in whatever activities give you pleasure – whether it’s shopping or binge-watching your favorite show, don’t hesitate to do it. It will keep your spirits up and that’s more precious than anything else at the moment.

3. Pursue relaxing hobbies:

Gardening, painting, origami, etc., are some relaxing hobbies you can take up to keep the blues away. Remember that the reason for your stress and depression stem from having fewer things to do and being cooped up. Any activity that takes your mind off the situation is welcome. You could indulge in group yoga in the park, for instance. Just don’t forget to take some precautions since this is mosquito season. Four drops of Goodknight Fabric Roll-On on your clothes is enough to keep even the most bloodthirsty mosquitoes away. With this, you no longer need to worry about Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya Fever, and other mosquito-borne diseases.

4. Your opinion is the only one that matters:

Everyone has opinions about everything, and it may include unwanted advice on how you should behave and act as a mother. Give them a patient ear and leave it at that. At the end of the day, only your counsel matters. This should be a mantra for you since nearly everyone you meet will have their own opinion on your situation. Don’t let it faze you.

5. Bond with your baby:

Love doesn’t happen instantaneously; it has to be worked on. Maternal love is no different in this regard. So, spend time with your baby and don’t just sit at home – go outside together. By bonding with your baby, you both will develop a lifelong love and attachment to each other.

The months right after birth can be a little overwhelming and hectic, and you can easily forget about taking care of yourself. But remember, your child’s happiness depends on your happiness, so ensure you take just as good care of yourself too.
