5 Key things to consider while attending a wedding during pregnancy

Pregnancy is that time in a woman’s life when she’s expected to be extra careful about what she does, what she eats, and where she goes. However, this doesn’t mean your enjoyment of life should come to a complete halt. You can and should enjoy yourself at this time.

You can go out, attend parties and weddings, and do a lot more. In fact, with a little planning, you can not only look great but also have a memorable experience as well. Here’s how:

1. Your style statement

In this day and age, you have easy access to fashion brands and ready-made clothes at your fingertips. So log on to the internet from the comfort of your home and pick an outfit that appeals to you. If you are up for a trip, you could head to the mall for a bit of retail therapy. Just remember not to overexert yourself in the process.

As far as footwear goes, this is one time you can gladly hang up your ‘heels’ and embrace flats. There are loads of choices out there, both online and offline, so you don’t have to worry about compromising on comfort and style. If by chance you do have to choose between the two, opt for comfort – both for your own and your baby’s sake.

2. Must-haves in your purse

Don’t step out of the house without your phone (fully charged), lipstick and other stuff for a quick touch-up, a small pack of tissues, and any medication that you may need. Ensure you have money handy or at least your cards in your bag. Keep your gynecologist’s visiting card on you whenever you step out of your home, whether for shopping or a party. You may have the number stored in your cellphone, but it is a good idea to have the card handy too.

3. Take all precautions

Enjoy the party by all means (that’s why you’re there after all!) but make sure you protect yourself and your baby. Party venues often have carpets laid down, so watch your step. Also keep an eye out for spills – juice, water, and the like. This is quite common as children are likely to run around with their dinner plates and glasses. If you feel tired, find a quiet corner to sit down and rest your feet for a bit, or take your leave for the evening if the strain is too much. Your host will understand.

4. Travel safely

While going to the wedding, ensure you are driven safely. If you are driving alone, take all precautions such as wearing the seat belt, driving slow, etc. Adjust the seat belt so you don’t feel uncomfortable. You must keep in mind that your safety comes first. Your safety will ensure your unborn baby’s safety.

5. Follow important instructions

You may be on a specific diet while pregnant, so if your gynecologist has suggested changes in terms of food, stick to them. Alcohol and smoking are taboo and if you find yourself among smokers, move away. Mosquitoes are another thing you must avoid at all costs as they spread diseases that can be quite serious. Apply an effective mosquito repellent such as Goodknight Fabric Roll-On on your clothes before you set out – and carry it with you for reuse if necessary. It’s perfectly safe for you and your unborn baby.

Remember, you are pregnant and not sick. You can participate in all festivities, though in moderation. So wear a comfortable outfit, put a smile on your face, and have a wonderful time with friends and family!
